Skyler:                  Hello Mr. Dwayne, Officer Tenpenny, I hope you've had a
                             lovely flight. Now you're probably wondering why I've led
                             you to the beautiful city of London right? Well it just grew
                             on me, you know when it just grows? Like an addiction,
                             like a drug, like cocaine. Then it got me thinking..

Skyler:                 How could I.. Skyler..
Dwayne:              Alright, Tenpennys here to pick me up now I'll report back
                            in an hour.

*overlap*
Skyler:                 Draw in a man like you?
Tenpenny:           Quick get in, hurry up!

Skyler:                 Oooo (laughs) her son. Ladies and gentlemen, please give a
                            warm welcome to the young Spencer Porter (laughs).

Tenpenny:           Okay okay cut to the chase have you got any updates on this
                            punk Skyler huh?

Dwayne:              Don't worry he won't get away this time. Ahhh sh*t.

Dwayne:             It's Michelle... Michelle?
Skyler:                Now if you want your Michelle to see her sweet sweet Spencer
                           again you'll do what i say. Or i'll put a bullet in Spencer's
                           F**king head!

Dwayne:            Hey, pull over now. It's Skyler. He's sent us another stream.
Skyler:               It's really been playing on my mind, what's more power,
                          dangerous, the gun?

Skyler:               Or the thought? The gun gives the opportunity, but the thought
                          pulls the trigger. If you're thinking about tracking this then
                          you're mistaken Dwayne cos' i filmed this 72 minutes ago
                         (laughs). So once again Dwayne.. you're BEHIND TIME!!!

Storyboard

Here is a storyboard we have created whilst brainstorming through ideas. We have kept it simple as our ideas are varied to change as the planning process is continued. Therefore we can use this as a blueprint when experimenting with our final ideas and decide which are most effective and can be fit within the 2 minute cut off point.

• Role - Main character, fugitive wanted in the US. Provides ultimatums (games) to the CIA in order to stop him destroying and killing.
• Psychopath broken out of mental institution.
• Fourth 'game' that he is playing with CIA, which he has taken to London.
• Motive - fun and satisfaction of watching the world burn and people suffer.

• Age - 28
• Role - CIA operative in charge of the Skyler case. 
• Been chasing Skyler for 7 months through his three previous 'games'.
• Deeply in love with case officer Michelle Porter who's son has been kidnapped by Skyler.
• Motive - do anything possible to catch Skyler and save Spencer (Michelle's son)

• Name - Officer Tenpenny 
• Age - 26
• Role - highly respectable CIA agent.
• Recognised as one of the best agents in the agency purely down to his attitude to not rest until all criminals involved are caught and punished.
• Working closely with Mr. Dwayne to catch Skyler.
• Motive - bring Skyler to justice.

Target Audience

As a result of the usually violent and explicit behavior and content shown during thrillers, we were able to narrow down our target audience to being either 15+ or 18+. Although some thriller occasionally drop down to PG & 12/a+ rating, but we didn't feel that this was the correct age group that should be exposed to such content. Most themes in thrillers contain lots of adult subject matters that are not suitable for younger ages. I felt that thrillers which were rated either PG or 12/a + were not realistic as directors attempted to cut out and soften such content. 

In other cases however at 18+, where directors now have the ability to freely explore what they please, they at times get carried away with their freedom and once again reality is lost. It seems in most cases the 15+ rating category contained the more realistic thriller films; our plan is to create a realistic thriller opening therefore this category may be the best suited for us. As we begin to develop our ideas it will allow it an easier option to choose are chosen target audience.

Intro clip of 'The Wolf Of Wall Street'

Me and my group found this intro to Martin Scoresese's The Wolf Of Woll Street very interesting and inspirational. Although this film does not conform to our chosen genre of a thriller; we found it's opening title sequence intriguing and thought that we could take certain elements that we could include into our opening title.

The approach of direct speech to the audience in which Leonardo DiCaprio breaks the fourth wall is highly effective. This engages the audience from the outset and allows to give a better insight on the characters personality. This technique was even more effective in this film as The Wolf Of Wall Street is a biographical film; therefore aims to portray the life of a character.

As a group we are still undecided on initial plot/characters ideas for our film opening; we do however want to take the audience on a personal journey with the chosen character and the technique of breaking the fourth wall is highly effective in doing so.

Our Task?

Our task is to create an opening to a film idea that we have developed. By exploring different camera techniques and angles we are expected to crete a realistic opening title sequence. The opening title should conform to features of our chosen film genre; ours being thriller.

Preliminary Task

Above is our final edit of our Preliminary task which we have created.

What is a Preliminary?

As a group we was issued a preliminary task which acted as training to enhance our abilities and understanding of handling the camera, different camera shots and angles that we could explore with. We were asked to incorporate 'rule of thirds', '180 degree rule','match on action', 'shot reverse shot' within our preliminary task.

• Rule of Thirds - "The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section. The main reason for observing the rule of thirds is to discourage placement of the subject at the center, or prevent a horizon from appearing to divide the picture in half.

• 180 Degree Rule - "The 180-degree rule enables the audience to visually connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate subject"

• Match on Action - "A cut that connects two different views of the same action at the same moment in the movement. By carefully matching the movement across the two shots, filmmakers make it seem that the motion continues uninterrupted. For a real match on action, the action should begin in the first shot and end in the second shot."

• Shot Reverse Shot - "Where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other"
